Advisory Council Reviews International Plans to Address Alzheimer’s

The Advisory Council on Alzheimer’s Research, Care, and Services met on Monday, April 29, to hear presentations from international partners on their efforts to address Alzheimer’s disease. Videos and other meeting files are now available for public viewing.

Alistair Burns, National Clinical Director for Dementia for England, began the meeting with his presentation “Responding to the Dementia Challenge in England.”  Yves Joanette, Scientific Director of CIHR Institute of Aging, then delivered the Canadian perspective on Alzheimer’s “Providing the Evidence to Face the Canadian and Global Challenge of Dementia.” 

After reviewing efforts to address Alzheimer’s abroad, the council held an open discussion of the international plans and opportunities for global collaboration amongst the countries.

The council also discussed the most recent Senate Special Committee on Aging hearing, previewed the 2013 update to the National Plan, outlined milestones to achieve the 2025 goal, and finished by opening the floor for public comments.
