Policy Issue #1: Assisted Living’s Value Proposition in the Government Efficiency Era
Wednesday 3/12: 9:45 am
Assisted living is the most cost-effective form of long-term care while maintaining some of the highest consumer satisfaction ratings across any U.S. sector—and Congress needs to know that. Highlighting the critical role that assisted living will play in reducing rising federal spending will position our communities as a partner in an era of government efficiency. Furthermore, showcasing high satisfaction among residents and families is paramount for the success of assisted living, especially as policymakers seek solutions for America’s long-term care needs. This session will review Argentum’s efforts to convey the Value of Assisted Living and explore effective strategies to tell our story in Washington, DC.
Policy Issue #2: Urging the VA to Increase Access & Cost-Savings
Wednesday 3/12: 10:45 am
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) determined that assisted living care is less than half the cost of a skilled nursing facility per veteran each year—leading to recently passed federal legislation for a modest pilot program demonstrating these cost-savings. However, the scope of the aging crisis means that the VA must rapidly embrace cost-effective assisted living at a larger scale than ever before. Additional initiatives—particularly the VA’s Aid & Attendance program—provide critical access to assisted living communities while also demonstrating their affordability. Amid discussion of government efficiency and savings, the VA provides a useful model in exemplifying the role that assisted living can play in alleviating the strain that America’s aging population will have on federal budgets.
Policy Issue #3: Tax Policy to Strengthen Senior Housing
Wednesday 3/12: 11:15 am
Congress has set its sights on major legislation in 2025 that will reshape policies impacting an array of issue areas. Among their top priorities is reducing both workforce and housing shortages through the budget reconciliation process. As our nation’s population rapidly ages, the need for affordable housing solutions has never been more critical. This session explores innovative policy solutions that we will advocate for on Capitol Hill to address the unique challenges faced in senior housing development.
