Luxury Senior Living Provides “Anything, Anytime”

Earning Brandywine Senior Living a Best of the Best Program to Watch recognition, Serenade expands options for residents. Offering a butler and other niceties, the program adds to the luxury feel of the communities it serves.

Brandywine Senior Living is marketing a new program for older adults whose needs include wants. Serenade is a community-within-a-community similar to the club floor of a fine hotel. There, the cocktails and hors d’oeuvres are a daily benefit, as are the optional turndown service, room service, and an “anything, anytime” butler.

So far, the five Serenade programs are either at or close to full capacity or have recently opened. “Our prompt to build or add Serenade into our communities was based on the discussion on what do potential residents want,” says Maria Nadelstumph, vice president of organizational development and program excellence. The consensus, says Nadelstumph, is that “they want more choices.”

Customers are attracted to Serenade for various reasons. Some simply “don’t want the big hubbub” of a busy senior living community, says Nadelstumph. “Some move in because their children want them to have a more appointed suite. Others are loving the fact that they have the privacy with the exclusive Serenade dining room and lounge,” she adds. “Others like the fact that they have more options, like room service at 2 p.m.”

Serenade looks and feels different from the rest of the senior living community. The upgraded accommodations include luxury suites with kitchenettes and walk-in closets. The Serenade Regency lounge includes a small library, computer wireless access for laptops, flat-screen TV, and monthly magazine subscriptions. In addition to 24/7 onsite nursing and assistance with activities of daily living and an in-suite safety and emergency response system, Serenade offers complimentary niceties such as a daily newspaper, a 24-hour refreshment pantry, scheduled transportation to doctor appointments and other destinations, and coordination with the arts and entertainment department for leisure activities.

The Serenade butler is solely dedicated to customer service, including running errands, making social plans, scheduling transportation, and serving as a personal liaison to other members of the community team to ensure Serenade residents are fully satisfied with the services.

As one resident said: “We did not expect them to do as much as they do, and they do it. We feel like we are in a hotel.”
