A Caregiver’s Guide to Alzheimer’s and Dementia: Memory Care Community Hosts Free Lectures

An Akron Memory Care community wants to help family members better navigate the diagnosis of Alzheimer’s and dementia. Greenfield Estates, an Anthem Memory Care community will host the first of three education programs from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Aug. 22 at the community located at 3522 Commercial Drive, Akron.

The Alzheimer’s Association, Greater East Ohio Area Chapter, will present the discussions.

Understanding Alzheimer’s and Dementia – Aug. 22, 5:30-6:30 p.m.

  • Learn about the impact of the disease of Alzheimer’s.
  • The difference between Alzheimer’s and dementia
  • Disease stages and risk factors
  • Current research and treatments
  • Alzheimer’s Association resources

Effective Communication Strategies – Sept. 26, 5:30-6:30 p.m.

  • Learn about communication changes as the disease progresses.
  • How to Interpret verbal and behavioral communication
  • Identify strategies to help you connect and communicate.

Understanding and Responding to Dementia Related Behaviors – Oct. 24, 5:30-6:30 p.m.

  • Learn how to decode behavioral messages.
  • Identify common triggers.
  • Strategies to help manage common behavioral challenges
