APIC and Argentum Partner on Infection Prevention and Control Training for Assisted Living Communities

[current_event_date]

Arlington, Va. – The Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) and Argentum, the leading association for resident-centered senior living communities, have jointly developed an infection prevention and control (IPC) course to educate frontline health professionals working in the nation’s 30,000 assisted living communities.1

The first-of its-kind, the Infection Prevention and Control Essentials for Assisted Living course is comprised of four modules specially developed for healthcare professionals in assisted living communities.

The first module includes infection prevention and control basics such as hand hygiene, personal protective equipment (PPE), respiratory etiquette, sharps safety, environmental topics, cleaning and disinfection, and food safety. The second module addresses transmission-based precautions and covers an array of infections and conditions of concern in the assisted living environment. The third module addresses why residents in these communities may be at an increased risk for infection and special care considerations. The fourth and final module is a compilation of the elements needed to build and lead a strong infection prevention and control program in the assisted living community.

“Through our partnership with Argentum, we are able to provide IPC education to a critical group of healthcare professionals who provide direct care to our nation’s seniors,” said APIC CEO Devin Jopp, EdD, MS.

“Teaming our senior living experts with APIC’s infection prevention experts, we have been able to develop a thorough and comprehensive course that is uniquely tailored to our audience. It’s critical as the industry continues to elevate measures to protect residents from infection,” said Brad Williams, Argentum Senior Vice President of Business Operations. Gain access to the education via the Argentum or APIC website.
