Argentum Names Champion of Seniors Award Honorees for Their Work to Supporting Assisted Living Caregivers

(Alexandria, Va.) – Senior living advocate Argentum announced eight Champion of Seniors award winners at the association’s annual Public Policy Institute and Fly-In, held March 6-8 in Washington, DC.

The awardees all have one thing in common, they have promoted the cause of senior living through their daily work as state and local senior living advocates, or by championing federal policies and legislation in the past year to support the nation’s assisted living caregivers.

Argentum Senior Vice President of Public Affairs Maggie Elehwany said that senior living caregivers are working tirelessly to meet the challenge of providing care to 2 million Americans in the midst of an unprecedented workforce shortage crisis.

“Our mission at Argentum is to promote choice, dignity, independence, and quality of life for seniors. Over the past year the ability to meet the challenge in achieving this high standard was made possible with the help of these 10 Champions,” she said.

Award winners from Congress are Senator Jon Tester (D-MT), Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC), Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX), Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC), Rep. Annie Kuster (D-NH) and Rep. Bryan Steil (R-WI).

“Each of these legislators has championed senior living issues since being elected to Congress,” Elehwany said, “and they were instrumental in helping to pass the omnibus spending bill at the end of last year that included historic investments to help develop the workforce needed to care for our aging population and stem the acute shortage of caregivers.

State-based advocate awardees are: Diana Martinez President and Chief Executive Officer of the Texas Assisted Living Association, and Frances Messer, President and Chief Executive Officer of the North Carolina Assisted Living Association.

Argentum Vice President of Government Relations Paul Williams said that “Diana and Frances have worked tirelessly to advocate for their communities and the residents they serve. This award celebrates their dedication and commitment to the health of senior Americans.”
