BLOOMFIELD, N.J.—Juniper Communities has announced the final two members of its regional leadership team for Texas: Daniel Nixon as regional director of wellness, and Kelly Eben as regional director of finance. Earlier, Juniper announced the addition of Vickie Stotler-Smith as regional director of sales and program development and Casey Tiffany as regional director of operations for Texas. Juniper Communities is currently expanding their operations into the Texas market.
Daniel Nixon is a board-certified geriatric nurse who has spent most of his 30-plus-year career as a director of nursing for geriatrics. In his role as regional director of wellness, Daniel will be overseeing all things clinical in nursing on the assisted living and skilled nursing side of Juniper’s Texas communities. He will ensure resident/patient handling, implementation of Juniper’s policies, nursing care, and Signature programs.
Originally from Philadelphia, Nixon has lived in Texas for almost 30 years. He has always had a love for the elderly, knowing he too would be there one day, and finds listening to their life stories especially interesting. Caring for the elderly is a family affair as his wife is a therapist in a long-term acute care hospital.
Kelly Eben, as director of finance, will support and oversee the business side of operations in Texas including human resources, payroll, and accounts payable/receivable. She has been working in long-term care for 20-plus years, always on the business side. Since joining Juniper she has received her Texas assisted living certification.
Born in Austin and raised in Junction, Eben’s family was part of the Immortal 32 from Gonzalez, Texas, that rode into San Antonio for the Battle of the Alamo. When Eben was a child, her mother would sometimes drop her off at the local nursing home to help with the seniors, while she was actually being watched herself. She would brush the residents’ hair, paint their fingernails, and talk to them. She also tagged along with the activities director and helped and joined in whenever possible.
After having children, Eben’s her first step back into the workforce was as a receptionist at a local Texas State Veterans Home. Here, her career trajectory in senior living took off. She and her husband reside in San Marcos, Texas.
