[current_event_date]

ALFA supports the principles of choice, dignity, and independence for
seniors.

The following is a concurrent session from the ALFA 2011 Conference & Expo, April 5, 2011 in Orlando, Florida.

Description:
Finding the right mix of choice, safety, and wellness is a delicate balance with conflicting questions arising every day from residents and families regarding consensual sexual relationships, the use of chemical and physical restraints, consumption of alcohol, and now, medical marijuana. Our panel of experts debate and discuss the issues to develop solutions to the tough questions on resident choice.

Learning Objectives:

  • Gain a better understanding of the inherent conflict between resident choice and a provider’s responsibility to resident safety and well-being.
  • Gain tools for conflict resolution with innovative approaches to balance choice and safety.
  • Learn to think critically about existing company policies and recommend improvements.

Panel:

  • Joel S. Goldman, Partner, Hanson Bridgett
  • Sara Vadakin, SVP Quality and Risk Management, Emeritus Senior Living
  • Mary Lynn Curran, VP of Risk Management, Willis of Illinois, Inc.
  • Allison Guthertz, VP of Quality Resident Services, Benchmark Senior Living
