ALFA 2012 Best of the Best Program to Spotlight

What started as a quest to do away with the noise of two-way nurse call radios in Silverado Senior Living’s memory care communities has led to the invention of a small, lightweight, portable phone device that gives staff all-in-one control over all communication and security systems.
To create the device, Silverado brought together four separate vendors—Code Alert, Emergin, Shoretel, and Ascom—to harness existing technologies and make them compatible. Unlike radios, the device enables nurses and others to have private  conversations, send text messages to the team, eliminate multiple responses to calls for assistance, and receive security alerts instantaneously.

“What we have is cutting edge, and being in total control, I think there’s just so much stress-level relief on caregivers,” says Stan Tanabe, senior director of plant services. “They can monitor windows, doors, the nurse call system, the wander management system—everything— with this one single device.”
