For one local senior, a rod and reel bring back a host of memories. Patricia McDonald, a 40-year member of the Women Anglers of Minnesota, is quite the fisherwoman. The 91-year- joined her friends at Elk Ridge, an Anthem Memory Care community, for a day of fishing on White Bear Lake with the help of Bear Boating Outings. The group offers fishing excursions for seniors, military, veterans and those with disabilities on White Bear Lake in MN.

Elk Ridge residents enjoyed an afternoon on White Bear Lake.

“We look for engaging activities to share with our residents that help them find purpose.,” said Laura Bidgood, life engagement director for Elk Ridge. “It’s important to remind residents experiencing dementia of joyful memories of the past. They can continue to express themselves through their hobbies and try new experiences.”

Elk Ridge is located at 1700 Beam Ave., Maplewood, MN.
