AMDA, formerly the American Medical Directors Association, is calling on communities caring for seniors to review or institute policies on sex among older adults.
The Bloomberg News article says the move was made after Bloomberg ran a series of articles exposing the consequences of sex among cognitively impaired residents at senior communities in the United States.
Nursing homes and other long-term care communities may not be prepared to adequately address sex among growing populations of residents with dementia partly because staff and families are hesitant to discuss sexuality, AMDA told Bloomberg News.
