As residents age and the complexities of their care increase, senior living providers must be prepared to manage increased risk in their communities. Learn from experts in the field about how increases in resident complexity affect senior living today, and in the future. Learn about strategies now being used to manage risk as complexities increase, while maintaining a high level of care for residents.

Budgie Amparo

Budgie Amparo has served as Senior Vice President—Quality and Risk Management since joining Emeritus in September 2007. Previously, Mr. Amparo served Summerville Senior Living, Inc. as Vice President of Quality and Risk Management from 2002 to 2007. Mr. Amparo is a registered nurse with a master’s degree in nursing, and has 20 years of combined healthcare experience in nursing education, acute care, skilled nursing and assisted living. Prior to joining Summerville Senior Living, Inc., Mr. Amparo worked for Kaiser Permanente where he opened Kaiser Permanente’s first sub-acute skilled nursing facility in Northern CA in 2002. He also spent 10 years with Mariner Post-Acute Network in a variety of positions including overseeing Quality Assurance, clinical operations and regulatory compliance for over 40 skilled nursing facilities in 11 states. Mr. Amparo is the chair of the Clinical Quality Executive Roundtable for the Assisted Living Federation of America.

 

Alan Fairbanks

Alan Fairbanks is currently Executive Vice President of Operations for Bickford Senior Living. He joined the company in 1996 and has held various positions including Director, Divisional Director of Operations, Product Manager of Assisted Living and Dementia, and General Manager. He is responsible for the operations of Bickford’s Independent, Assisted living, and Dementia branches in 6 states. Mr. Fairbanks currently sits on the ALFA Executive Roundtable for Operations. He has also been a contributor to Executive Insights and Assisted Living Executive Magazines. He has also been a presenter at Erickson School of Aging Studies at the University of Maryland at Baltimore County. Mr. Fairbanks earned his B.S. degree in Exercise Physiology from Kansas State University and his Masters in Health Administration from the University of Kansas.

 

Jeff Sylvester

 

Jeff Sylvester is currently Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Bell Senior Living and brings over 18 years of operational and sales and marketing leadership.  He has facilitated the successful turn-around and repositioning of highly complex businesses in the independent living, assisted living and memory care/dementia sectors. Mr. Sylvester was the Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Harbor Retirement Associates (HRA,LLC), a Florida based Senior Living company that specializes in acquisition turn-around and new community development, as well as serving in operational and Executive Director positions for Marriott Senior Living Services and Sunrise Senior Living. Jeff has successfully implemented sales leadership, training and strategies in multiple turn-around communities that showed annual same store increases in both census and profit margin, and produced market analysis and pro-forma development for Senior Living acquisition teams. Mr. Sylvester has also been a national Mentor Executive Director and is proven builder of high quality teams with the ability to attract, develop and retain top talent under his leadership.
