A new Gallup poll finds that seniors aged 75 and older feel the most satisfied with their financial wellbeing and overall standard of living. According to a number of measures, those aged 65 and older view their current personal financial situation in a much more positive light than adults under the age of 65.
The survey found that those aged 75 and older were most likely to report positive views on their current financial situation. For example, 72 percent of those aged 75 and older reported feeling good about how much money they have, and more than half said they have more than enough money to do what they want to do with their lives. Those aged 75 and older also expressed less remorse than other age groups about past spending. 90 percent reported that they are not worried that they spent too much yesterday.
The 65 to 74 age group was second only to the 75 and older age group in their positive perceptions. 78 percent of adults aged 65 to 74 reported being satisfied with their current standard of living. 86 percent of those aged 75 and older reported the same thing, while only 70 percent of those aged 50 to 64 agreed.
Those aged 50 to 64 had the least positive views of their current financial situation. Only 50 percent reported feeling good about how much money they have. Researchers suggest that economic pressures relating to nearing retirement could account for their unfavorable views about their current financial situation.
