BELLEVUE, Wash.—Silverado is pleased to announce that Simeon Purkey has been named administrator of its Bellevue memory care community, slated to open this spring.

A passionate and experienced senior living professional with a strong record of providing residents under his care with an exceptional quality of life will lead the team of highly trained and compassionate memory care professionals.

A native of the Pacific Northwest, Simeon earned a bachelor of arts from Indiana Wesleyan University and a master’s from Wesley Biblical Seminary. He began his professional career in senior living in 2016 as a memory care lifestyle director in Bend, Ore. Simeon quickly earned a promotion to marketing director and ultimately to senior executive director. He earned the staff’s trust, dramatically improving average employee retention to more than two years and gaining the families’ confidence filling the community to more than 95 percent occupancy. Most recently, he served as Executive Director at a memory care community in Austin, Texas. At Bellevue, Purkey often sings to residents and is otherwise actively engaged with the staff in the community.

“Of the many differentiators Silverado offers to enrich the lives of our residents, none is more important than our people,” comments Loren Shook, Silverado’s co-founder, president, and CEO. “Simeon exemplifies the compassion, spirit, and professionalism that have helped Silverado communities change the lives of countless residents and families in the more than two decades the company has been in business,” he added.

The new community is prepared to meet the current pandemic’s challenges, with a policy that staff must be vaccinated against COVID-19 unless they have a health or religious exemption. Companywide, Silverado has created a safe “bubble” around communities with a vaccination rate exceeding 97 percent for residents and staff.

Shook shared, “Many families have experienced the unique needs of their loved ones with memory impairments, and being most concerned about their safety have struggled to find quality care during this pandemic.”

He adds, “Offering and committing to maintaining a staff that has received the vaccine creates a great level of confidence when they decide to place their loved one with Silverado.”

Joining Silverado’s Bellingham community, located 90 miles to the north, the Bellevue community offers more than 28,000 square feet supporting 56 residents.

“This purpose-built community has many innovative design features to meet the unique needs of individuals living with a brain disease to regain a sense of control and freedom, advancing their ability to function normally again,” Shook says.

This unique building design, coupled with Silverado’s dementia-certified staff, results in world-class evidence-based outcomes proven to reduce behaviors commonly found in other assisted living and memory care settings.

Shook continued, “Often the resident’s behaviors are misinterpreted as being a result of their dementia when they are due to the environment a person is forced to live in and cannot adapt to, like you and I can.” Silverado offers a new paradigm of quality of life for the person with the disease and provides relief and hope for their family. The result of these industry-leading design elements and trained staff is to maximize the quality of life for residents. Improved airflow, lighting, and acoustic enhancements promote resident wellness while incorporating the latest technologies to combat the challenges posed by COVID-19.
