ALFA 2013 Best of the Best Program to Spotlight
Nearly all families who help a loved one move to an Elmcroft community are doing so for the first time and may have many questions. Meanwhile, care associates need families to communicate with them about their loved one in order to provide the best possible care.
Elmcroft Family Website is a pilot allowing two-way interaction between communities and families, beyond the usual postings of activity calendars, newsletters, and so on. It also includes more than 100 short courses on topics related to senior care; a secure site-within-a-site for family members associated with a specific resident to share information and photos; a direct feedback tool that has been helpful for families who need to contact the organization off-hours, and so on.
More than 80 percent of pilot families participated. “By providing a secure portal for families, we show them that we understand, and that we want to partner with them in a way that is convenient for them,” says Gerald Jackson, director of program and staff development.
The above best practice was recognized as an ALFA 2013 Best of the Best program to spotlight.
