Survey Looks At Care Issues for LGBT Seniors

[current_event_date]

A coalition of organizations has launched an online survey aimed at raising awareness of the issues facing lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) seniors who live in long-term care settings.

The National Senior Citizens Law Center, Lambda Legal, National Center for Lesbian Rights, National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, National Center for Transgender Equality, and Services & Advocacy for GLBT Elders (SAGE), have worked together to develop and launch a 16-question survey. Through this research, the coalition hopes to identify areas where policy changes will improve care, and to find other older adults, advocates, and providers interested in the long-term care needs of LGBT seniors. ALFA is glad to share this information in an effort to continually enhance quality care for the nation’s seniors.

Take the “Survey of LGBT Treatment in LTC Settings.” Participants can take the survey online or print it out to complete it manually, if they prefer. Printed surveys should be mailed to: Nancy Arevalo, National Senior Citizens Law Center, 1330 Broadway, Suite 525, Oakland, CA 94612.

The deadline for responding to the survey is December 15, 2009. Contact Heather Wollin at [email protected] with questions.
