Joel Goldman, Partner, Hanson Bridgett
Joel Goldman is a senior partner at the law firm of Hanson Bridgett LLP based in San Francisco. He joined the firm in 1980 after receiving his law degree (Order of the Coif) from the University of California at Berkeley. Mr. Goldman is recognized nationally as a leading expert on legal and regulatory issues involving assisted living communities. For more than 25 years, he has advised owners and operators of assisted living communities on wide ranging issues including licensure matters, resident disputes and transfer issues, operational procedures, risk management, and disability discrimination. Mr. Goldman’s clients range from large, publicly traded national companies, to local and regional providers.
Mr. Goldman is a frequent speaker at assisted living conferences around the country and he has authored numerous articles for state and national publications. In addition, his practical approach to problem solving has made him a popular featured presenter at in-house training programs for assisted living providers. Mr. Goldman is one of the founding members of the California Assisted Living Association and he has served on CALA’s Board of Directors since the organization’s inception in 1994 (including a term as Board Chair). He also served for many years on the Board of Directors of the National Association For Senior Living Executives and is currently an active member of ALFA’s Legal Committee.
Kenneth
Segarnick, General Counsel, Brandywine Senior Living
Kenneth C. Segarnick is the Managing Director, Business Development and General Counsel of Brandywine Senior Living, a premier provider of senior housing in the Mid-Atlantic region.
Mr. Segarnick is focused on growing Brandywine’s business through acquisition and development. He also manages the company’s legal affairs. Since joining Brandywine in March 2002, Mr. Segarnick played a crucial role in the company’s recapitalization with Warburg Pincus Fund IX (an $8 billion private equity fund), sale of the skilled nursing division and ancillary businesses, placement of long-term and short term debt, acquisition of multiple new facilities and
development sites, and creation of innovative business programs.
Mr. Segarnick joined Brandywine after serving as Vice President and General Counsel of United Messaging, Inc., where he also spearheaded a legislative policy and development initiative and advised many large companies in the development of electronic privacy policies. His work has been featured in The Philadelphia Business Journal; CNN; The New York Times; and ComputerWorld Magazine. Prior to United Messaging, Mr. Segarnick was a member of the commercial litigation department at the Philadelphia law firm of Dilworth Paxson LLP. He received both his B.A. and his J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh.
Andrea Teichman, SVP & General Counsel, Benchmark Assisted Living
Andrea Teichman is a Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Benchmark Assisted Living LLC in Wellesley, MA, where she is responsible for legal matters, risk management and compliance.
Before joining Benchmark in 2007, Andrea was a partner at the law firms of Day Pitney LLP and Hill & Barlow PC and an associate at Gaston & Snow. Andrea received a J.D. from The University of Chicago School of Law and an A.B. from Bowdoin College.
Andrea lives in Medfield, MA with her husband and two daughters. She enjoys skiing, cooking and reading.
