[current_event_date]

Silverado Senior Living’s Leadership Development Forum trains select employees for leadership positions within the company. The Best of the Best Program to Watch serves as an example of a successful investment in human capital.

After 10 years, Silverado’s Leadership Development Forum (LDF) offers a time-tested example of the value of investing in an organization’s next round of leaders. “Part of it is retention, and part of it is having leaders ready to open new Silverado communities,” says Beth Burbage, VP of organizational development. “It’s the inspirational and motivational investment we make in folks, as well as the financial.”

The intensive, year-long program is for select employees—usually just below administrator level—with high leadership potential and a master’s-level learning capability. Training includes an all-expenses-paid, day-long class in person six times a year with independent work in between; learning directly from senior leaders; a year-long leadership project; and assessments. Of the 132 graduates so far, most are still at Silverado. Of those, about 50 percent have been promoted at least once, and 16 have become administrators.

The above best practice was recognized as an ALFA 2012 Best of the Best Program to Watch.
